Description: While the benefits of technology for students with disabilities have been widely recognized and celebrated, the impact of technology on general education has been less than dramatic. In this panel, four speakers will examine recent advances in special education technology research and practice–including both assistive technologies and universal designs–with a focus on advancing their role in general education reform. Each speaker, representing the perspectives of research, development, policy, and practice, will explore a common question: can technologies and students that are presently “in the margins” lead to fundamental changes for all students?
